Mary Dodge on Denver’s new public safety director

Professor Mary Dodge is quoted in the Feb. 18, 2018, Denver Post article “Multiple job changes, an old friendship and fighting crime: Denver’s new public safety director speaks” on the installation of Denver’s new public safety director and his previous professional relationship to Chief White.

Others believe Riggs should step aside. “If you compare this to the judicial process, you would have to recuse yourself,” said Mary Dodge, a criminology professor at the University of Colorado Denver. “There’s the appearance of favoritism, and that could make it hard for Riggs to win trust among police officers, who are notoriously cynical,” she said.
