Others believe Riggs should step aside. “If you compare this to the judicial process, you would have to recuse yourself,” said Mary Dodge, a criminology professor at the University of Colorado Denver. “There’s the appearance of favoritism, and that could make it hard for Riggs to win trust among police officers, who are notoriously cynical,” she said.
