MPA Alumna Happy Haynes on Leadership

Master of Public Administration alumna Happy Haynes ’02 was profiled in “Happy Haynes, Denver leader: Alumna uses education in long, distinguished career of city service” in CU Denver Today on Aug. 13, 2017. Haynes is the director of Denver Parks and Recreation, as well as the deputy mayor of Denver. Her distinguished 30-year career includes being elected to the Denver City Council (and serving two terms as president of the council), time working for then-mayor John Hickenlooper, and serving as president of the Denver Public Schools Board of Education.

At CU Denver, Haynes learned from those “in leadership” and those who have “studied leadership.”

“What I learned, and what I hope characterizes my leadership, is that you must constantly evolve and learn,” she observed. “I pay attention to what I do, how I do it, how I communicate, how I make decisions. I am mindful of how I lead. It’s a skill that must be cultivated, grown and nurtured.”

Congratulations Happy!
