Upcoming Skill-Based Workshops

1. Writing Workshop for Capstones
February 22, 4:30 – 7:00 PM.  1380 Lawrence Street. SPA Classroom 500.
The workshop focuses on how to WRITE the capstone. It provides practical advice for each major section of the capstone (executive summaries, literature review, review methods and present findings, and discussion and recommendations).  If you are currently in the capstone, please bring a copy of your prospectus

2. Intermediate Excel Workshop with PhD Candidate, Sam Gallaher
Friday February 24. 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Advanced sorting and data cleaning techniques, basic statistical functions, and table and chart generation. 1380 Lawrence Street. 5th Floor. SPA’s Computer Lab

3. Project Management Workshop

5. Network Leadership Training Academy
SPA’s Center on Network Science is hosting the Fifth Annual Network Leadership Training Academy (NLTA) on April 26-28 at the Lawrence Street Center. The NLTA is a 3-day interactive workshop to develop skills for building, managing, and evaluating collaborative networks. Early registration pricing ends Friday, March 17. Engagement & Networking Opportunities

1. Colorado Consumer Health Initiative; Annual Health Care Day of Action
February 23
This event is an opportunity for consumers, students and advocates from all over Colorado to discuss important health policy issues and engage with legislators on current health policy being discussed in our legislature. Learn how to lobby at the Capitol.  Keynote speaker, Lt. Gov Donna Lynne.  Register online (scholarships available upon request).

2. The Prison Fellow program
They are asking SPA to support “Second Chance Month.”  A fund and awareness raiser benefiting individuals with criminal histories who are have demonstrated a concerted effort for successful reentry. There will be a 5 K run event at Denver’s Sloan’s Lake Park on April 8.  They are seeking SPA students to form a team or volunteer at the event.  Details online:

3. Interested in nonprofit networking and training?
Join the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network – Denver.  The first 5 to reply will have their annual membership fee paid for my SPA

MPA Student Association Announcements

1. February 27 meeting, 6:30 PM
Hear MPA updates and share ideas about upcoming student events. Updates about the meeting and remote participation info can be found on our Facebook event page. Please note the new location: Auraria Police department, 1201 5th St, Denver, Colorado 80204

2. Volunteer with Food Bank of the Rockies
Saturday, March 11 from 12:30-3:30 PM
We will be sorting and packaging food that will help feed members of our community. Limited spaces are available- please let us know if you are able to join us on the Facebook event page.
