Wirth Chair Luncheon Focuses on Creating a Reduced-Carbon Future

The 17th annual Wirth Chair Sustainability Awards luncheon took place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Denver on Sept. 9, 2016. Some 250 attendees listened to the keynote address by Dr. Joe Romm, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress and founder of the blog Climate Progress.

Romm’s talk was titled “Almost Everything You Know About Climate Change Solutions Is Outdated.” He outlined a number of areas in which prices for carbon-free energy sources and solutions have fallen dramatically, making the shift to those technologies the economically sensible — and morally essential¬†— choice.

Romm also quoted former Vice President Al Gore, who recently stated that the cleantech revolution will have a greater impact than the industrial revolution and information revolution combined.

Former School of Public Affairs Dean Marshall Kaplan received the 2016 Wirth Chair Sustainability Award for his leadership and achievements in sustainability.
