MPA alum Happy Haynes was named director of Denver Parks and Recreation by Denver Mayor Michael Hancock — who is also an MPA alum. The appointment ceremony was featured in “Hancock names civic leader Happy Haynes as new Denver parks director” in the Sept. 8, 2015, edition of the Denver Post.
Happy has served in many important policy roles. She won election to the Denver City Council in 1990 and served three terms; she was council president from 1998 to 2000. In 2005 she joined Denver Public Schools as the assistant to the superintendent for community partnerships.
In 2008, Governor Ritter appointed Happy to the Colorado Commission on Higher Education. She became the chief community engagement officer for Denver Public Schools in 2009 and served in that capacity until she joined CRL Associates, a political and public administration consultancy, in 2011.
